There's definitely nothing immoral with selling people a piece of gear that they will almost certainly require, but the question arises, "why don't they merely involve it in the price and be finished with it?" Why attempt to sneak the pedestal into the mix as an added cost? 

So, if you are in the market for a modern front loading washer or dryer or combination, just remember that you do have alternatives. You currently hold the knowledge before you go to buy the equipment. Your choices will be:

1. Buy the washer/dryer devoid of the pedestal and bear the bending over to complete the laundry.

2. Bear the cost and pay the excessive cost for the pedestal stand, or...

3. Construct your own platform and have a sturdier one and save some money.
